You're right. Perhaps I'm being a bit naive about it. I know such tools exist. I've used them before to defeat copy protections on a lot of the games I own, but I legitimately own those games.

Unfortunately, theft is a reality and in our hobby, we've got all kinds of thieves that steal anything from wheels, stereos, to the whole car , etc. I don't think this type of "behavior" needs to be "glorified" in any way.

Perhaps I misread the intention of your post. If that is the case, I apologize.

Well, I remember reading some software company going to the extreme of having their software email its home address when the pirated version was used online.

I wonder if a tuning version could on the 30th full speed run, cause an extremely lean (read none) fuel condition at full boost.

That oughta be justice enough.

Actually, I don't have a single MP3. I'd say it's more a matter of I haven't been that much into tune collecting for the last several years more than any rightousnous.

this thread is hilarious. Sure, you can have the tuning software, but what about the other benefits of Hondata? Such as full throttle shift, variable rev limiter (on the fly), data logging, full throttle launch, etc. None of that is available without the blue box that only comes with purchasing the system. And for me, the datalogging part alone makes it a worth while purchase.

Err, vapor, you didn't get it.

Read the first message in the thread. This is about people that have *purchased* stage 2 hondata systems. We were explaining the obvious feasibility of illegally upgrading to the stage 3b ROM and software.

Adding a switch for the rev limiter and launch control isn't exactly rocket science, dude.

NOTE: I am not advocating piracy, I am simply discussing reality. Please pay Doug and the Hondata guys their due for creating an awesome system.

I can tell you right now that the method above will be 99.999% ineffective.
1) If you're a software pirate, would you put your REAL address? Damn, I wouldn't even put my real free email account!!!
2) If they could crack the software to remove copyrighted protection and generate a key to "register" it, do you think they would leave the "submit my address" portion alone?
Corporation like Microsoft with loads of cash to burn and endless source of genious programmers, if this was an easy solution, they would have done it by now already. Even with DTV, they have complete control of the data stream, yet people still come up with ways to aux. their access card with softwares like emulator, reprogram the microchip, design HW like bootloaders.. etc. Think of it as ways to make a virus. You can try to deter it, there is no absolute way to stop it....except with an human character and conscience.

I understand that it is totally possible to do...as a matter of fact, I have access to machines that extract wares from ROM and can duplicate them. However I urge that people would not do this...we have limited people who devoted their entire time to come up with ways to improve our hobbies...And as with everyone else, they have wives and kids to feed. If you pirate their income, they can't feed their family and will move elsewhere...which will leave you high and dry in the end.
